Skip manual forwarding when you can. Expensent connects to Gmail, Outlook, or Google Workspace via OAuth, finds current and historical invoice emails, routes them to your Dext address, and automates recurring sender and subject patterns.
TL;DR
Yes. Dext accepts receipts, invoices, and other paperwork through Extract by email addresses. Dext documents Single addresses for one document per file and Multiple addresses for one document per page, with Costs and Sales destinations. After submission, Dext extracts available fields and adds items to the relevant inbox for review.
A Single @dext.cc address treats each attached file as one item, even if the file has multiple pages. A Multiple @multiple.dext.cc address treats each page in a multi-page file as a separate item. Dext says PDFs sent to a Multiple address can contain up to 200 items, with one item per page.
Receipt Bank became Dext in 2021. Dext says Dext Prepare retained Receipt Bank features, including document capture methods such as email submission. For current forwarding, use the Extract by email address shown in your Dext account instead of relying on old Receipt Bank-era addresses.

Dext Receipt Emails: Four Address Variants
Dext documents Extract by email addresses for Costs and Sales, with Single and Multiple processing modes for different submission scenarios. Understanding the destination shown in your account is key to predictable receipt processing.
[user]@dext.cc — Standard Costs
Your primary receipt email address. Each attached file is treated as a single document and processed as one cost item. This is the address you'll use for most day-to-day receipt forwarding.
- •One document per attachment
- •Processes as a cost (purchase/expense) item
- •Best for single receipts and invoices
[user]+sales@dext.cc — Sales Items
Use this variant when submitting sales invoices (income) rather than expense receipts. Documents are routed to the sales section of your Dext account instead of the costs section.
- •Routes to Sales section, not Costs
- •Best for invoices you've issued to clients
- •Keeps income and expenses organized separately
[user]@multiple.dext.cc — Multi-Page Cost Splitting
This variant splits multi-page PDF attachments into individual items. Each page of the PDF is processed as a separate cost document when each page is a separate document.
- •Each PDF page becomes a separate item
- •Dext says Multiple-address PDFs can contain up to 200 items, with one item per page
- •Best for batch receipt PDFs or multi-page statements
Sales Multiple address — Multi-Page Sales Splitting
Copy the exact Multiple address for the Sales workspace from Dext. Dext documents separate Sales and Multiple destinations, but its public guide does not publish a combined example that should be constructed by hand. Each page of a multi-page PDF is processed as a separate sales item.
- •Each PDF page becomes a separate sales item
- •Best for batch sales invoice PDFs
Where to find your addresses: Log in to Dext and navigate to Profile > User Settings > Extract by Email. Dext also documents account-level Extract by email addresses under Business settings > Extraction. Choose the user or account address that matches your ownership workflow.
Important: Using the wrong address variant can cause unexpected results. Sending a multi-page PDF to the standard @dext.cc address will process the entire PDF as a single item. If you need each page extracted separately, use the @multiple.dext.cc variant instead.
Step-by-Step: How to Email a Receipt to Dext
Once your account is set up, here's how to email a receipt to Dext:
Find your @dext.cc address
Log in to Dext and go to Profile > User Settings > Extract by Email. Copy your unique @dext.cc address. Choose the right variant for the document type and processing mode: standard for Costs, +sales for Sales, or @multiple.dext.cc when each page in a multi-page file should become a separate item.
Forward the receipt email
Forward the original receipt email to your @dext.cc address. Dext processes both the email body content and any file attachments. You can also compose a new email and attach receipt files directly. Dext's current file-type help lists common image and document formats, including JPG, PNG, PDF, HEIC, DOC/DOCX, ODT, RTF, and ZIP files that contain supported file types. Keep images and ZIP files under Dext size limits.
Dext extracts the data
Dext's extraction engine processes the receipt and pulls out available fields such as supplier or customer, date, total, tax, currency, and invoice number. Dext says extraction can vary based on the document and Dext's processing state. Check whether the item is still processing, To review, or Ready before assuming it can be published.
Review and publish to accounting software
Open the relevant Dext Costs or Sales inbox and review the extracted data. Verify required fields such as supplier, amount, date, and category. Once the item is Ready, publish or export it according to your connected accounting software.
File Format and Size Requirements
Dext supports a range of file formats for Costs and Sales items. Check the current Dext help for workflow-specific limits before building a forwarding rule around an unusual file type.
Accepted Image Formats
- •JPG / JPEG — Standard photos
- •PNG — Screenshots, digital receipts
- •GIF — Image files
- •BMP — Bitmap images
- •TIFF — High-quality scans
- •HEIC — iPhone photos (native support)
Accepted Document Formats
- •PDF — One file per item for Single addresses; one item per page for Multiple addresses
- •DOC / DOCX — Microsoft Word
- •ODT — OpenDocument text
- •RTF — Rich text format
- •HTML — Email submissions
- •ZIP — Compressed archives (up to 100 MB)
Size Limits and Restrictions
- •Images: Maximum 6 MB per file
- •ZIP archives: Maximum 100 MB
- •PDFs: Dext says Multiple-address PDFs can contain up to 200 items, with one item per page
- •Hyperlinks: Dext cannot extract data from links within emails—the receipt must be attached as a file
HEIC support: Dext's current file-type help lists HEIC as an accepted format for Costs and Sales items. If your workflow depends on HEIC, send a test document and confirm it lands in the expected Dext inbox before automating that pattern.
Automate Recurring Receipt Emails
Expensent finds current and historical receipt and invoice emails, sends documents to the Dext destination you choose, and handles recurring sender-and-subject patterns with rules you create.
Connect your email
Link your work email using secure OAuth—we never see your password. Gmail, Outlook, and IMAP supported.
Set your @dext.cc address as the destination
Enter your unique Dext email address as your forwarding destination in Expensent. Use @dext.cc for standard costs or any variant that fits your workflow.
Automate repeat patterns
When a new invoice arrives that you've set to auto-forward, it routes to Dext through the rule you created. Dext then extracts available fields after the document arrives.
What Expensent Adds Before Dext Extraction
- Inbox document discovery : Find current and historical receipt and invoice emails, then send each document to the correct Dext destination.
- Visible exceptions : Keep unusual or incomplete messages visible without slowing down recurring document patterns.
- Recurring Extract by email routing — No more hunting through inboxes to find and forward the same recurring receipt patterns one by one.
- Historical catch-up — Surfaces past receipt candidates in your inbox so you can forward selected items or turn proven patterns into rules.
- Rule-based setup — Connect a supported inbox, set the Dext destination, test the handoff, then create rules for repeatable patterns.
- Paper receipt capture — Built-in phone camera scanner with edge detection. Snap paper receipts and forward them to Dext alongside email invoices.
- AI price extraction — Reads PDF, JPG, and PNG attachments to extract the invoice amount, currency, and recipient when available. International invoices show both original and converted amounts.
- Fine-grained control — CC your team on forwarded emails, attach vendor notes, filter by attachment type, skip $0 invoices, or block specific senders—control how reviewed receipt patterns flow to Dext.

What happened to Receipt Bank? Is it the same as Dext?
Receipt Bank became Dext in 2021. Dext says Dext Prepare retained Receipt Bank features, including document capture methods such as email submission. For current forwarding, use the Extract by email address shown in your Dext account instead of relying on old Receipt Bank-era addresses.
Why are my emailed receipts not showing up in Dext?
Check these common causes: (1) the message went to the wrong Extract by email address; (2) an email-provider forwarding verification message was not delivered or completed; (3) the document is still processing; (4) Dext cannot extract password-protected attachments or documents from hyperlinks; (5) the file type or size is outside Dext limits; or (6) the item was rejected or removed as a duplicate.
Does Dext accept HEIC photos from iPhones?
Dext's current file-type help lists HEIC as an accepted Costs and Sales format, alongside JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, PDF, ZIP files that contain supported file types, DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF, and HTML for email submissions.
How do I find my Dext email address?
Log in to Dext and go to Profile > User settings, then scroll to Extract by email. If you are in multiple accounts, select the right Business. Dext also documents an account-level Extract by email address under Business settings > Extraction; user and account addresses behave differently for document ownership.
Can I use Dext with my accounting software?
Yes. Dext says it offers accounting software integrations. Once a document is processed, Ready items can be published to connected accounting software, while To review items need missing or incorrect fields completed first. Exact publish options depend on the connected accounting platform.
How accurate is Dext data extraction?
Dext markets high OCR and AI extraction accuracy for receipts and invoices, but the workflow still includes review. Dext extracts fields such as supplier or customer, date, totals, tax, currency, and invoice number when available, and users can edit extracted fields before publishing or exporting.
