Dext Receipt Forwarding with Review

Find invoice emails, review them, and route selected documents to Dext

Published December 1, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Stop digging through your inbox for Dext-bound receipts one by one. Expensent helps detect likely invoice and receipt emails, shows what needs review, and lets you forward selected documents to your Dext Extract by email address for Dext's extraction workflow.

This page focuses on the Dext receipt handoff: which destination to use, what Dext does after the Dext forwarding address receives the email, and where Expensent adds review before forwarding.

The Manual Forwarding Problem

Dext's Extract by email workflow receives documents well after they are sent, but inbox-heavy teams still need a reliable way to find and route the right emails before they reach Dext:

  • •Dext email forwarding rules still depend on the sender and subject patterns you maintain in your email provider
  • •Clients and employees can forget to send receipts to the right Dext destination
  • •Accountants spend time chasing missing documentation
  • •Month-end closes are delayed when inbox receipts are incomplete or stuck behind portal links

Dext Email Routing with Expensent

Expensent surfaces likely invoice and receipt emails in your inbox and shows what needs to happen next — ready to forward, needs a download, or needs review. Forward to your Dext Extract by email address with one click, or create a rule from a reviewed pattern so future matching invoices can route to Dext.

  • Dext routing: Review receipts by next action before forwarding them to Dext
  • Broad vendor coverage: AI-powered detection can recognize invoice and receipt patterns beyond a fixed vendor list
  • Happy accountants: No more chasing clients for missing Dext receipts
  • Dext review: Forward selected receipts now, or create a rule from the reviewed email pattern for future arrivals
  • Paper receipt capture: Built-in phone camera scanner for paper receipts — snap a photo and forward it to Dext alongside your email invoices
  • Dext controls: Use CCs, notes, attachment filters, zero-dollar skips, and sender blocks before forwarding

How Dext Email Forwarding Works

Dext (formerly Receipt Bank) gives users and accounts Extract by email addresses such as [custom-name]@dext.cc. Dext also documents Single and Multiple processing modes for Costs and Sales. Use the Dext address shown in your account for the workspace and document type you want Expensent to route into. When documents are sent to this address:

  • •Dext extracts key fields such as supplier or customer, date, total, tax, currency, and invoice number when available
  • •Items land in the relevant Costs or Sales inbox for review
  • •Ready items can be published or exported when the account and fields support it
  • •Common supported submissions include PDFs, image attachments, document files, ZIP files with supported images, and email body content

Pro tip: Find your Dext Extract by email addresses in Profile → User settings, or use the account-level address under Business settings → Extraction when that ownership behavior fits your workflow.

Dext Receipt Forwarding FAQ

How do I automatically forward receipts to Dext?
Connect your email to Expensent and set the Dext Extract by email address shown in your account as your forwarding destination. Expensent finds likely invoice and receipt emails, shows what needs to happen next, and lets you forward selected emails or create rules from reviewed patterns.
What Dext email address should I use?
Use the Extract by email address Dext shows for the Costs or Sales workflow you want. Dext documents Single addresses for one document per file and Multiple addresses for one document per page. Copy the exact destination from your Dext account into Expensent.
Does Expensent work with Dext Prepare (Receipt Bank)?
Yes. Receipt Bank became Dext in 2021, and Dext still references Dext Prepare in its product history. Use the current Dext Extract by email address shown in your account rather than relying on old Receipt Bank forwarding addresses.
How long does Dext receipt automation take to set up?
Setup depends on your email provider, Dext destination, and how many forwarding rules you create. Start by connecting your inbox with OAuth, entering the Dext address shown in your account, and forwarding a reviewed test receipt before enabling recurring rules.
Will Dext automatically extract data from forwarded receipts?
Dext extracts key fields after documents arrive, including fields such as supplier or customer, date, total, tax, currency, and invoice number when available. Review the item in Dext before publishing or exporting, especially when required fields are missing.
Is my email data secure?
Expensent connects to your mailbox through OAuth, so we never see your email password. The pipeline uses metadata prefiltering before deeper analysis of likely invoice emails, and forwarded documents are sent only to the destination you configure.

How Automatic Invoice Forwarding Works

Expensent connects to your email inbox and uses AI to surface likely invoice and receipt emails. Each document is grouped by what needs to happen next: ready to forward with a PDF attachment, needs a download from the vendor portal, needs your review, or not an invoice. You review the queue and decide what happens next.

One-Click Forwarding and Auto-Forwarding Rules

Forward a selected invoice to your accounting software with one click. Or create an auto-forwarding rule from a reviewed email and subject pattern so future arrivals can follow the same route. Rules are created from existing emails with one click.

Works With Many Accounting Platforms

Forward receipts to QuickBooks Online, Xero, Expensify, FreshBooks, Ramp, Brex, BILL, Dext, SAP Concur, Wave, Zoho Expense, Hubdoc, Emburse, Pleo, Rydoo, Divvy, Revolut Business, or another reviewed forwarding destination. Each platform has its own rules for how receipts are received, processed, extracted, or matched.

Privacy and Security

Expensent uses OAuth authentication to connect to your inbox — your password is never shared. AI prefilters on email metadata only, so personal emails are filtered out without their content ever being read. You control which invoices are forwarded and where they go.
