Skip manual forwarding when you can. Manual forwarding is only half the workflow. Most receipt emails stay in the inbox until someone remembers to forward them. Expensent connects to Gmail, Outlook, or Google Workspace via OAuth, surfaces invoice emails for review by next action, and forwards selected receipts to your Revolut Business address — including historical inbox items that Gmail filters cannot backfill.

1. What Is Revolut Business?
Revolut Business is a financial platform for companies of all sizes, offering multi-currency accounts, corporate cards, and expense management tools. Revolut Business provides tools for spending, payments, and financial operations in a single app, with feature availability and pricing varying by market, plan, and account setup.
When a business transaction appears under Expenses, Revolut can require supporting information such as a receipt. Emailing receipts to your dedicated Revolut Expenses address is one supported way to get digital receipts into that workflow.
Key Revolut Business Features
- •Multi-currency accounts— Hold, send, and receive in 25+ currencies with competitive exchange rates
- •Corporate cards— Physical and virtual cards with administrator-controlled spending limits
- •OCR receipt scanning— Automatically scans supported receipt files and can auto-fill fields
- •AI-assisted categorization— Revolut says its AI learns from submitted expenses and categorizes future expenses
- •Accounting integrations— Syncs with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, and more where supported
2. Revolut Receipt Email Address
Unlike tools that use a single public intake address, Revolut Business shows eligible Expenses users a unique Expenses email address. This address is different from your login email and is used for receipt submissions.
Found under Profile > My receipts in Revolut Business
When you forward a supported receipt to this address from your Revolut Business login email, Revolut scans it and attempts to attach it to the corresponding outstanding expense.
How to Find Your Receipt Email
- Open your Revolut Business profile
- Select My receipts
- Find your unique receipt email address — copy it
Important: You must forward receipts fromthe email address you use to log in to Revolut Business. Revolut uses the sender's email to identify your account. Send receipts tothe unique receipt email found under My receipts — not to your login email.
3. Prerequisites: Before You Email Receipts
Before forwarding your first receipt to Revolut Business, make sure these requirements are met.
Expenses Enabled and Permission Granted
Revolut says Expenses must be enabled on your account and you need the Enrolled in Expenses permission. Without the right account setup and permission, forwarded receipts may not appear in-app.
Know Your Two Email Addresses
There are two emails involved: (1) your login email (the address you sign in with), and (2) your unique receipt email(found in Profile > My receipts). You forward receipts from your login email to the receipt email. Revolut uses the sender address to identify your account.
File Requirements
Revolut accepts emails with one supported attachment (PDF, JPG, or PNG up to 6 MB) or no attachment when the email has an HTML body. If an email has several attachments, Revolut says only the first one is processed.
4. Step-by-Step: How to Email a Receipt to Revolut
Follow these steps to email a receipt to your Revolut Business account.
1Find your Revolut receipt email address
Open your Revolut Business profile, select My receipts, and copy the unique Expenses email address shown there. This is the address you will forward receipts to.
2Forward the receipt email
Open the receipt email in your inbox and forward it to your Revolut receipt address. You must send from the email address you use to log in to Revolut Business—Revolut uses the sender to identify your account. Use one supported attachment (PDF, JPG, or PNG, max 6 MB) or an HTML email body.
3Revolut OCR processes the receipt
Revolut scans the receipt, can auto-fill expense fields, and attempts to attach it to the corresponding outstanding expense.
4Verify in the Revolut Business app
Open the Revolut Business app and check the transaction. The receipt should appear attached when Revolut can match it. If it was not matched automatically, you can open My receipts and match it manually.
5. File Formats and Requirements
Revolut documents the following email requirements for forwarded receipt messages.
Accepted Formats
- PDF— Invoice and receipt documents
- JPG— Receipt photos and scans
- PNG— Screenshot receipts
- HTML email body— Receipts embedded in the email
Max file size: 6 MB. If there are several attachments, Revolut says it processes only the first one.
Not Processed
- •ZIP archives— Compressed files not supported
- •Word / Excel— .docx, .xlsx not supported
- •Files over 6 MB— Exceeds size limit
Tip: Revolut accepts HTML body receipts only when the email body is HTML. If a receipt does not appear, confirm the sender, permission, file, and HTML-body requirements before resending.
6. Receipt Scanning and Auto-Fill
Revolut Business scans uploaded receipts, can auto-fill expense fields, and attempts to match receipts to outstanding expenses. Matching and auto-filled fields should still be reviewed.
OCR Data Extraction
When a receipt arrives at your Revolut receipt email, Revolut scans it and can auto-fill fields such as tax rate, transaction amount, and date, while highlighting mismatches. Revolut product material reports matching accuracy of up to 98%, but Revolut also recommends manual matching if a receipt scan is not satisfactory.
AI Learning and Auto-Categorization
Revolut says its AI learns from submitted expenses and automatically categorizes future expenses to save time. Treat those suggestions as reviewable expense data, not a guarantee that future expenses will be categorized correctly.
Custom Categories
Revolut help documents auto-filled fields such as expense description, accounting category, tax rate, and labels. The specific fields and accounting setup can depend on your account configuration and integrations.
7. Business API Access
For businesses that want programmatic access to expense data, Revolut Business documents Business API endpoints for retrieving expenses and receipts.
Grow, Scale, and Enterprise Plans
The Business API, custom approval processes, and some accounting integrations are available on Grow, Scale, and Enterprise plans only. Accounts without API access can still use non-API receipt submission methods if Expenses is enabled and the user has the required permission.
What the API Does
Revolut's current expenses API guide documents retrieving a specific expense, retrieving a receipt related to a specific expense, and filtering/retrieving expenses. It also notes that the feature is not available in Sandbox. Receipt submission itself is handled through email forwarding, mobile upload, or web upload—not through the expenses retrieval API.
Email does not require API access: You do not need Business API access to forward receipts by email. Expenses availability, pricing, and permissions can vary by market, plan, and account configuration.
8. Spend Controls and Approval Workflows
Revolut Business includes built-in spend controls that work alongside receipt management. Understanding these helps explain how receipts fit into the broader expense workflow.
Per-Employee Spending Limits
Revolut Business documents card controls such as spending limits, permitted categories, country controls, and spend programs. Exact controls depend on the account, plan, and administrator configuration.
Custom Approval Workflows (Grow+ Only)
On Grow, Scale, and Enterprise plans, you can build custom approval processes so expenses can reach the right reviewer. The approval workflow can include transaction details and any attached receipt. Revolut also supports auto-freezing cards with late expenses; its product page cites an internal analysis showing overdue receipt submissions reduced by up to 70% when auto-freeze rules are enabled.
Compliance Enforcement
Revolut can help finance teams track missing receipt information and review expenses according to their policies. Expensent helps by getting likely email receipts to Revolut sooner, but final compliance review still belongs in Revolut and your finance process.
9. All Receipt Submission Methods
Revolut Business offers multiple ways to submit receipts. Email forwarding is one of several options:
| Method | How It Works | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Email Forward | Forward receipt to your unique Revolut receipt email | Email receipts with a supported attachment or HTML body |
| Mobile App | Take a photo of a paper receipt in the Revolut app | In-person purchases, paper receipts |
| Web Upload | Upload receipt files directly in the Revolut dashboard | Bulk uploads from desktop |
| Manual Match | Match an unmatched receipt from My receipts | Receipts Revolut could not match automatically |
| Business API | Retrieve expenses and receipts via Business API (Grow+ plans) | Accounting sync, custom workflows |
10. Troubleshooting
If your receipts aren't appearing in Revolut or matching correctly, work through these checks:
1.Receipt not appearing in Revolut
Check that: (1) You sent to the correct receipt email (found in Profile > My receipts), not your login email. (2) You sent from the email address you use to log in to Revolut Business—Revolut uses the sender to identify your account. (3) Expenses is enabled and you have the Enrolled in Expenses permission. (4) The email has one supported attachment under 6 MB or an HTML body.
2.Receipt not matching a transaction
Revolut says scanning and matching may not be fully accurate. It also only matches against non-submitted expenses. If a receipt is not matched automatically, open My receipts, select the unmatched receipt, and match it manually.
3.OCR extracted wrong data
Revolut says auto-filled fields should be reviewed and edited before submission when needed. If the scan is not satisfactory, use a clearer receipt file or correct the expense details in the Revolut Business app.
4.Email bouncing back
If emails to your Revolut receipt address are bouncing, verify the address is correct. Receipt email addresses are system-generated and may contain random characters. Double-check by copying it directly from Profile > My receipts.
5.Receipt is in the email body, not an attachment
Revolut accepts HTML email bodies as well as file attachments, but Revolut specifies HTML body handling. If the receipt is not processed correctly from the body, confirm the email has an HTML body and that the sender and Expenses permission requirements are met.
11. Automate It with Expensent
Forwarding receipts manually is tedious. Expensent helps by detecting likely invoice and receipt emails in your inbox, routing them by next action, and forwarding selected or rule-matched emails to Revolut Business.
Connect your email
Link your work email using OAuth without sharing your mailbox password. Gmail, Microsoft/Outlook, and IMAP-supported providers can be connected.
Set your Revolut receipt email
Enter your unique Revolut Business receipt email as your forwarding destination.
Create rules for recurring receipts
When a new invoice arrives that you've set to auto-forward, future sender-and-subject matches can go to Revolut automatically.
Where Expensent Adds an Inbox Review Layer Before Revolut
- Works with connected mailboxes — Connect Gmail, Microsoft/Outlook, or an IMAP-supported mailbox; provider and admin policies may still apply
- Upstream receipt review — Surface likely receipt emails before choosing the configured Revolut Business destination
- Visible exceptions — Keep uncertain or portal-only evidence visible instead of treating every message as ready to route
- Rule-based automation — Create rules from reviewed sender-and-subject patterns for future recurring receipts
- Paper receipt capture — Use manual upload for paper receipts when you need to send a file to the same destination
- AI price extraction — Can pull amount and currency from supported receipt attachments when available
- Fine-grained control — CC configured recipients, add notes, filter by attachment type, skip $0 invoices, or reject reviewed sender-and-subject patterns
